The "Intelligent Future" isn't just code; it's kilowatts. Well more like Megawatts. As Artificial Intelligence reshapes our careers and classrooms, it brings a hidden challenge: a massive surge in energy demand. Every AI-generated insight or AI chat-bots question starts with a surge of electricity. With data centre capacity predicted to skyrocket to support AI, the Australian energy landscape on its journey to Net Zero is also at a turning point. This presentation explores how the rise of global data centres is shifting Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM). We’ll dive into the mechanics of "base load" vs. "peak demand" and explain why Snowy Hydro’s flexible portfolio from hydro to gas and diesel is the critical backbone needed to keep our intelligent future powered, stable, and resilient.
